Ammonoosuc Ravine

I got to hike the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail with friends the other weekend. (We made a loop by returning via Jewell Trail.) After enjoying soup at the Lakes of the Clouds hut (what luxury!), we were pleasantly treated to some real Mount Washington weather: sustained 50mph winds and about 15 feet of visibility.

Internal dialogue shortly after leaving Lake of the Clouds: How silly to have such large cairns so close together!

Internal dialogue 30 minutes later: Thank god these cairns are so large and close together!!! [Grabs boulder to prevent losing balance in 70mph gust.]

Look at all these silly cairns!

Steadily into the cloud.

Oh hey, I think this might be the top.

Using the summit sign for support.

Enjoying the weather.
